Daveed Diggs, who won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance as Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the hit musical Hamilton, played his final performance in the show July 15, but continues to line up high-profile screen projects.
According to Variety, Diggs has joined season three of the ABC series Black-ish. He’ll have a major character arc as Rainbow Johnson’s brother, Johan, an entitled hipster kid.
Entertainment Weekly previously reported that Diggs has been cast as an English teacher opposite Julia Roberts in Wonder, the film adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same title by Raquel J. Palaci. Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay are also scheduled to appear in the movie, which has not set a release date.
Diggs has also been cast opposite Andy Samberg and Murray Miller in the parody sports doping documentary Tour de Pharmacy, being developed by HBO. Also set for the cast: Julia Ormond, Phylicia Rashad, Will Forte, Dolph Lundgren, John Cena, Mike Tyson and Nathan Fielder. No airdate has been set.
His Hamilton replacement has not been named. While the roles are being recast, Lafayette/Jefferson will be portrayed by understudies Andrew Chappelle, Austin Smith and Seth Stewart.
