Variety reports that Academy Award winner Meryl Streep is in final talks to join Disney’s anticipated Mary Poppins film sequel, Mary Poppins Returns.

Streep, who starred as The Witch in Disney’s film adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine musical Into the Woods, will reunite with director Rob Marshall and co-star Emily Blunt on the project.

Streep will play Topsy, Mary Poppins’ cousin, who was not seen in the original 1964 film. It is also reported that her part will be a singing role.

Blunt, who played the Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods and co-starred with Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, will play Mary Poppins, alongside Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will make his major motion picture debut as Jack, a lamplighter. The film is based on other books in P.L. Travers’ series of books on the adventures of the magical nanny.

Hairspray Tony winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will compose the film’s original score.

Mary Poppins Returns is set to premiere December 25, 2018. Filming will begin later this year in London.
